Mad Men writer Matthew Weiner pitched the pilot script for 4 years

Just a short one with the simple message of never giving up… Not straight away, at least.

Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner waited four and a half years before his script was picked up, sending it to HBO three or four times over that period.

Speaking on a panel following the reveal of the Writers’ Guild of America’s 101 Best Written TV Series of all time, Weiner said that he “never even got into the building” while pitching his pilot to the network.

So don’t rip your tear-drenched script in two upon your first rejection. Don’t destroy it on your second or third either.

Of course, there’s knowing when to quit as well, but that’s probably for another time…
